Demetrius Witherspoon is an award-winning filmmaker, writer, and creator best known for the Submerge Universe®, a multimedia sci-fi franchise spanning films, animation, comics, immersive collectibles, and the Get Submerged Sci-Fi Podcast. He has directed actors from The Walking Dead, Star Wars, and Marvel. His innovative indie sci-fi storytelling has earned recognition from File 770, a multiple Hugo Award–winning publication, and his films are archived at the Indiana University Black Film Center & Archives for their cultural significance.

With five films streaming worldwide on Amazon Prime, Apple TV, and Tubi, Demetrius has expanded the Submerge Universe® through international distribution, including a dedicated release in Japan. His catalog continues to grow with major 2026 projects such as Submerge Universe: Fragments, an atmospheric standalone thriller, and Submerge Universe: Finnii’s Adventures, a children’s animated series that extends the franchise to new audiences.
